Exercise Resources

Osteoporosis Exercise Program This is a new program offered by the retired senior volunteer program, please follow the link for the flyer and call the RSVP office at 252-2670 or email RSVP@colliergov.net if you have questions.

 

Collier County Parks and Recreation has programs and places that support an active lifestyle. These include sailing instruction at Sugden Park, free canoe tours with rangers at Barefoot Beach, education on shells, birds and the environment at Tigertail beach and more! These workouts were designed by Florida Gulf Coast University students to be cheap, easy and effective. click on the pictures or the blue link for each brochure.

These workouts are free and should be a short drive or walk from your home. This resource was provided by FGCU students and the Collier Health Promotion Coalition.

Active Living Resource Guide provides information on where to walk, swim, picnic, play tennis, basketball, baseball etc. in Collier County. It was also developed by FGCU students for the Collier Health Promotion Coalition.

Triathlons

Founded in 1994 in Naples, Florida, the Naples Area Triathletes is a triathlon club dedicated to promoting the competitive and recreational spirit of triathlon. Our group is made of up of all levels of experience and expertise. Whether you’re just getting started, looking to complete a sprint distance triathlon like the Naples Fitness Challenge, or eager to win the Hawaii Ironman, you’ll enjoy the social, motivational, educational, and training benefits of the Naples Area Triathletes. Walking

Walkable Community Checklist. Take a walk in your community and assess how walkable it is by filling out this checklist. You can get some exercise and make your community more walkable. Mail in your results to the Health Department address printed on the envelope. We will share your information with partners in an attempt to make our community a walker-friendly one!

The new Google Map Pedometer is a fun tool that allows you to plot and calculate the distance of your own walking route. There is also a calorie converter so you can figure out how many calories you burned on your walk. Visit: http://tinyurl.com/9tx7t

Walk for Wellness  is a free walking program with an instructor who leads warm up and cool down exercises and performs free blood pressure checks. Meet at the mall (by the food court) Monday-Wednesday-Friday. Doors open at 8:00 am. The exercise portion begins at 8:30 am in front of Dillards. Blood pressures are taken from 9 -9:30 am. The program ends at  9:30 am. 

Hiking

Alligator Amblers is a hiking club chapter that serves Florida Trail Assn. members in Collier, Lee and Charlotte Counties, with hiking, paddling and camping trips and trail maintenance projects.  Florida Trail Association's Southern Chapters hikes - http://www.florida-trail.org/html/south.html

Biking  

Go for a ride in your neighborhood and take the bike-able community survey. You can make a difference by mailing in your results. The coalition will share your results with community leaders at the Department of Transportation, the Sheriff's Office and the Health Department.

Weight Loss Classes

 

Healthy Beginnings is an 8-week weight loss program in which participants meet on a weekly basis at Physicans Regional Medical Center (formerly Cleveland Clinic hospital). Every Wednesday  participants meet from noon-1:00 pm. Each session is limited to 15 participants.  The fee is $150.00.  Please e-mail Betsy Opyt  betsy.opyt@pmc.hma.org  if you would like to enroll, or call 348-3996.

NCH Diabetes Self Management Classes -   Learn about the preventative measures to maintain a healthy blood sugar level.  For information on classes call 436-6755.

Diabetes Refresher Counseling - Fine tune you diet and blood sugar management during a 1:1 session. Medicare and commercial insurance reimbursement. Call 436-6755.
